WHAT IS BOSWELLIA SERRATA AND HOW IS IT BENEFICIAL FOR JOINT HEALTH?

Boswellia Serrata, via its active boswellic acids group, appears to be a novel inhibitory of a pro-inflammatory enzyme called 5-Lipoxygenase and may possess other anti-inflammatory effects. These anti-inflammatory effects have been investigated for their benefits in osteoarthritis (OA), and it appears that oral Boswellia supplements can suppress pain and immobility associated with OA quite significantly with the effects taking as little as a week to occur.

MANY JOINT SUPPLEMENTS CONTAIN BOSWELLIC ACIDS? WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BOSWELLIC ACIDS AND AKBA?

This is probably the most important question you can ask. The different boswellic acids in the Boswellia plant and their standard concentrations are Acetyl-Keto-Boswellic-Acid (AKBA)- 3% Acetyl-Beta-Boswellic-Acid- 20% - 30% Acetyl-Alpha-Boswellic-Acid- 10-12% Other Organic Acids- about 30-40% Total 75-85% As you will notice, while the total boswellic acids make up about 85% of the Boswellia plant, the particular Boswellic Acid known as AKBA (Acetyl-Keto-Boswellic-Acid) makes up < (less than) 3% of the total Boswellic Acids found in the plant. Of all these Boswellic Acids, AKBA is the only Boswellic Acid, which has been clinically substantiated to provide any real anti-inflammatory properties in various studies. The other Boswellic Acids (which make up 80% of the plant) have NO TANGIBLE joint health benefits. MEGACURC® has been formulated with 1000% higher (or 10X) the AKBA content generally found in standard Boswellia supplements.

WHAT IS JOINT INFLAMMATION?

In joint inflammatory conditions, the inflammatory response is influenced by activity of certain enzymes that catalyze the formation of Prostaglandin series -2 (PG-2) which has pro-inflammatory effect at the site of joint.
